Things with Simon’s parents had gone well, and so had things with Val’s. They’d texted as soon as they were done, and Simon felt better.

Val had told him that his parents had reservations, but that they wouldn’t do anything about it. They were worried, and Simon got why. He was a shifter, and his parents were over the moon about the fact that he’d found his mate, but Val was human. It was normal that his parents were wary, especially with the way the Green Hill pride had kept itself separate from the town for so long. He hoped that eventually they would get to know him and come to like him, but even if it never happened, he knew he wouldn’t lose Val. He would never lose him, not if Val had anything to say about it, and he did.

Simon was relieved that Val had asked if they could see each other today. He’d wanted to climb into his mate’s lap as soon as he was done talking to his family, and that hadn’t changed. He still had to tell Gal and Liam about him and Val being mates, but it could wait, at least for a few days. If Simon’s parents hadn’t cared, they wouldn’t care, either.

Or at least, Simon thought so.

But Jordan was right. Gal was a good person, and he wouldn’t care. If anything, he would be happy for Simon. They worked well together, and as far as Simon was concerned, they were becoming more than coworkers. He couldn’t say they were best friends or anything like that, but they were friendly, and he knew Gal would want him to be happy, not just because he was his personal assistant, but also because he was his alpha.

Gal hadn’t been wrong when he’d said that the two roles might make it harder for him and Simon to work together, but mostly, it was easy. Sometimes, it was hard to remember and to understand whether Gal was talking to him as his boss or his alpha, but things are working out, and Simon was positive about it.

And now, talking to Gal was the only thing left to do. Another day, though. Right now, Simon was waiting for Val, and since he couldn’t find it in himself to sit on his bed, he bounded down the stairs. He might as well stay in the entrance, or maybe even stand outside on the porch. Val wouldn’t mind, and he wouldn’t tease Simon. Hell, he was probably just as eager to see Simon as Simon was to see him.

Simon was starting to relax when it came to Val. In the beginning, he’d been afraid to open himself up too much. He’d been afraid that Val would change his mind, that he wouldn’t want to deal with him. It was hard to find a balance, especially when Simon had never had this kind of relationship before. Even if he took the mate thing out of the equation, he’d never had a relationship.
